Britney Spears AEC
Britney Spears has, throughout her entire fame, been perceived as many things she is not. Despite what many say, the media is to blame for this. Britney’s songs differ in some ways, though many of them have the same general meaning; a common lust for men. One of her first hits, ...Baby One More Time, repeats the line, “I’m not that innocent.” This added onto the image of Britney Spears created by the public. We no longer saw her as an innocent little pop star. The media found tremendous amount of opportunities to make a fool out of Britney. In her song, Piece of Me, Britney expresses her frustration for the media making her look like a bad mother, a whore, and many other things. Britney says, “I’m miss bad media karma, another day another drama…” This album was released in 2007, the famous year of the Britney Spears meltdown. Therefore, the public fed off of any news released on her. Though Britney sings a lot about her sexual desires, in her album Oops!... I Did It Again, she sings a song called Lucky. In this song, she sings about jealousy over a girl who has the guy she is in love with. Britney sings, “If there’s nothing missing in my life then why do these tears come at night?” This single shows us a whole different side of Britney. She may be different than most girls, but she has a soft side like all of us. Though the media shows Britney as irresponsible and self-centered, we can figure out who the real Britney is through the deeper meanings of her music.
